The Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) is the specialized agency for agriculture of the Inter-American System that supports the efforts of Member States to achieve agricultural development and rural well-being.
Established in 1942, IICA has a long history of supporting the development of agriculture and rural communities in the region. In the field of agritourism, IICA has over 20 years of experience connecting local farmers with hotels and restaurants to integrate farmers into strong value chains, as well as designing competitive tourism products that increase the value of natural and agrifood resources on farms and throughout the rural community.
Recently, the offices from multiple Caribbean countries, the US, Mexico and Canada have come together to form IICA’s Agritourism in the Caribbean Network (ICAN) focused on supporting agritourism development in the region. We believe that agritourism offers a unique opportunity for small farmers and rural communities to diversify their incomes, enhance their livelihoods, and preserve their cultural and natural heritage.

We are committed to working with small farmers, tourism businesses, governments, and other partners to promote sustainable agriculture and rural development in the Caribbean, and to help create a more prosperous and equitable future for the region’s people.
