Jungle Trekking Adventures and Safaris Inc. (JTAS) is an eco-tourism outfit that also offers culinary classes and cultural/heritage experiences. Operated by a husband and wife team, Michael and Daria Eugene, JTAS provides tours of the nature isle, showcasing the beautiful and rugged landscape and flora and fauna of Dominica. Michael Eugene is considered a hiking tour pioneer and one of the initial proponents of Dominica’s long-distance walking trail, Waitukubuli National Trail. 

JTAS adventure tours include treks through the rainforest to waterfalls, volcanic areas, sulfur springs, former plantations, fresh water and boiling lake; river boating through mangroves and wetlands; snorkeling in marine reefs, and swimming through an inland gorge. 

There is also a tour to the Carib community to meet and learn about the country’s indigenous people. Here the Carib culture is displayed via heritage sites, farms, preparation of traditional products, craft, food, music and dancing.

The company also offers a cooking class at the home of the couple, located in lush environs on a hill with views of the sea and surrounding hills. Guests learn about the ingredients and are guided and entertained by Daria Eugene in the preparation of the meal, which is consumed in a homey and relaxed atmosphere. Patrons also sample local rums and juices made from local fruits.
